SWINE is a dramatic action-Sci-Fi short-film trilogy that centers on a rebel group known as Vox Populi. This band of
Outlanders have come together to battle an army of warlords (Colonial Legion) who are set on dominating a world where
lawlessness is the law.
As the Colonial Legion makes its way around the Outlands murdering everyone they suspect as members of Vox Populi, the
real rebels are planning their attack on the Colonial Legion's base. Although they are heavily outnumbered, Vox Populi seem
to be fearless and armed with enough bombs and laser guns (similar to the weapons you'd see in any Star Wars film) to lay
waste to anything in their path.
As you work your way through each of the 3 Chapters, the plot thickens and the stakes become much higher as the Colonial
Legion puts a price on the heads of the Vox Populi, turning all of their allies into bounty hunters. Ultimately, as with any group
of freedom fighters, all good things must come to an end. Egos and tempers skyrocket as members of the Vox Populi are
either being killed or captured, causing the survivors to question one another's motives.
I'm often times a bit ho-hum when it comes to watching ultra-low budget indie film projects, mostly because the plots are
horrible, the acting is awful and the overall production quality is unbelievably bad. But that's not the case with SWINE. It's
evident that, regardless of the budget, the director and crew had enough creativity to not muck this trilogy up. As you're
watching it, you get the sense that the production team really wanted to push the envelope and produce a full-length feature
film but they just didn't have enough budget to cover it.
For a low budget short-film trilogy, I thought the crew over at Well-Oiled Machine and Arcay Studios did a pretty decent job of
not making Swine look like total cheesballs. If these guys can get the money together and make this into a feature-length film,
I could easily see Sy-Fy channel picking this up and putting it into their regular broadcast rotation.
Movie critic stuff aside, and speaking as just a fan of independent films, this project made me want to go back and watch Mad
Max & The Thunderdome.
Some of the creative minds behind SWINE include: Koren Young (Exec. Producer), Matt Bowers (Producer), Brad Hoffarth
(Cinematographer/Editor), Ryan Young (Sound Supervisor), and music by Ashley Witt.
