Need music for you upcoming movie, television show, video game, commercial or video project? Look no
further.  Catalyst Sound is the partner you need.

Here, Catalyst Sound’s Director of Operations, Devin Davis, shares a little insight into the company’s
operations and why Catalyst is the best fit for any media project.

IAE:        Please tell us where you’re from and how you got into music licensing as a profession?
DD:
I’m from a town in Ohio called Twinsburg.  It’s a suburb outside of Cleveland. As far as music licensing, it
was a natural progression. I’ve been involved in the arts pretty much my entire life,  so after I graduated high school
I moved to Atlanta to pursue music full time. I made my rounds on the independent scene for a few years, and was
signed to an independent label. That was an awesome experience, because we had the opportunity to tour with
major artists like Bow Wow and Lil Wayne. Long story short, that deal didn’t pan out for me but it presented some
opportunities to work in film and tv, as well as in advertising. That was around the point I began to see that even
though the average consumer may not necessarily see value in music anymore, brands and film and television
producers very much do. I created Catalyst to facilitate the opportunity for independent artists.

IAE:        What is Catalyst Sound all about and what do you do there?
DD:
Catalyst Sound provides precleared music for virtually every type of production. Film, television,
commercials, and video games, as well as corporate video and public use, such as retail stores. We also have a
number of in house composers who score film and television productions from scratch. Our goal is to get the best
music for our clients productions, and make sure they have
absolutely no issues with clearance down the line.

IAE:        With music licensing, how important is it for all
of the publishing and copyrights to cleared up before you
start pitching music to film, television, commercials and
other brands?
DD:
It’s absolutely critical. If an artist doesn’t approve of
their music being used, it can’t be…point blank.  Large brands
and corporations easily spend millions on campaigns that revolve

around a single song. If everything isn’t 100% cleared for use…
I don’t even have to tell you how bad that situation can become
for everyone involved. I’ve heard horror stories of licensing
companies being sued for hundreds of thousands because their
paperwork wasn’t handled properly.

IAE:        Where does Catalyst Sound get its catalog and
how large is your library?
DD:
We’ve been very fortunate in that regard. We’re ALWAYS on the lookout for new musicians and producers.
We receive tons of submissions every day via email, and we review every single one. If I hear about an artist by
word of mouth, I’ll do my research then reach out to them. We pride ourselves in standing out from other licensing
companies because of the quality of our music, not the quantity. That being said, our library of songs for licensing
is in the thousands.

IAE:        Who are some of the companies Catalyst Sound has worked with?
DD:
We’ve had the opportunity to work with some great brands such a Geico, Microsoft, and Stride Rite, as well
as have our music featured on shows such as Keeping Up With The Kardashians, The Real World, Bad Girls Club,
and Jersey Shore. We’ve also worked with a number of companies that produce corporate video, as well as a
number of great independent film projects.  We have some other projects coming up, but we want to just continue
to do good business, and build a positive reputation in this market.

IAE:        How do filmmakers and television professionals license music from Catalyst Sound’s library of
compositions?
DD:
They can contact one of our specialists by emailing us at catalystsoundlicensing@gmail.com. Let us know
what your needs are and we’ll take care of them. Also, very soon our online SoundStore will be available, to allow
them to search and purchase music directly from the site.

IAE:        Who are Catalyst Sounds primary targets when it comes to placing your catalog in movies,
television shows and commercials?
DD
:        Anyone who needs music, for anything…we can help. Film producers, music supervisors, creative
directors, advertising agencies, producers of industrials and business video, theatre, retail, radio stations…we’ve
got you covered.
