Cata9tales breathes life into Hip Hop with their latest EP release, A Chameleon's Dream.
A cross between 3rd Bass and Beastie Boys, this project is an organic flashback to the
glory days of the 80s and 90s when Hip Hop music was about crafting verbal pictures of
true to life stories; for you young bucks out there, it was before commercialism infected
the music and turned it into disco noise.
My ears got exactly what it's been craving for, dope lyrics with passionate vocal delivery
that draws you into each song. The beats are pure old school hip hop, laced with off key
samples and break beats that embody the spirit of the urban ghettos of America. My
favorite song was Ultralife because it incorporates the more modern sounding keyboard
and drum sounds, but still remains true to that gritty hip hop edge that Cata9tales is all
about. Again, the lyrics and delivery are on point.
Overall, A Chameleon's Dream is a dream come true for those of us who have been
longing to hear hip hop investigate its ancestry and not forget where it came from. If
you're a fan of groups like The Beastie Boys, 3rd Bass, House of Pain, Nice & Smooth, or
Cypress Hill, I'm willing to bet you'll love and appreciate what Cata9tales is doing for Hip
