Most unsigned artists don't understand the importance of proper music promotions. They simply send out tons
of emails and post hundreds of Tweets and Facebook comments hoping to be noticed by fans who are
inundated with artist vying for attention.
If you want to reach real music fans and really stand out in today's over-saturated music industry, you're going
to have to build a presence, and do it right. This means you'll have to do more than just post messages on
social media and send out spammy emails. The last thing you want to do is become an irritation to those
you're trying to gain support from.
Here are a few tips from I AM Entertainment Magazine to help you build a bigger presence online.
1. Merch...the moving billboard
Another key way to promote your band is to unload merch (t-shirts, hats and bumper stickers) at live gigs.
Whether you sell it or give it away, merch is a great way to make get the word out about your band. When
people wear your t-shirts or put your bumper stickers on their cars you have moving billboards that reach an
insane amount of people over time.
2. Press coverage...get more of it
One of the best ways to grow a fan base, sell more music and book
more gigs is to gain major press coverage. Artists/bands who don't
get any press coverage with print magazines, top music websites
and blogs, and broadcast media are losing the game. This is not an
easy task, so you'll need to find established media sources who
have a large following (30,000 or more) and support unsigned artists
and bands. Those who take advantage of these types of opportun-
ities to gain press have a higher likelihood of seeing success.
3. Marketing with credible music sources
Most unsigned artists and bands never reach the level of success they aspire to attain because they don't think
about a marketing plan before they begin to record a new album. Most artists think that if they simply
self-promote, they will sell music and get gigs, but this couldn't be further from the truth. All you have to do is
look at the millions of unsigned artists/bands who are self-promoting and getting nowhere with it, to realize that
this form of promotion alone will not cut it. You have to look into advertising your band's album inside leading
print magazines and on top music websites in order to really stand out. Sometimes it's very affordable to do
advertise and market your band's album too.
EXAMPLE:
For only $64 each, a 5 member band can get a radio interview, 1/3 page print and digital magazine ad, 2 weeks
of a 350x200 website banner ad, an interview on the magazine's website with video embedded and blasted to
over 40,000 music fans, an album review in the next issue of the magazine, and four (4) Twitter & Facebook
mentions.
